Speak frankly, I was little bit hesitating when decided to watch this drama because the criticism and negative voices for it. Again due to my curiousness as well I really like Peng Xiao Ran, still gave it a chance, and here I share my opinion after watching 24 episodes.

Jun Jiu Ling is a Chinese drama that set in ancient time. It is about Chu Jiu Ling (He Hong Shan), the daughter of former emperor who discovered the person that killed her father was actually her own uncle (the current emperor). In order to revenge and also keep her siblings alive, she was attempting to kill the current emperor on her wedding day. She failed with her mission and then put in the prison. Her best friend Jun Zhen Zhen (Peng Xiao Ran) and also her father Doctor Jun tried to break the prison and help her to get out but in the middle of the mission, Jun Zhen Zhen sacrificed her live in order to save Chu Jiu Ling. With the help and the skill of Doctor Jun, Chu Jiu Ling returned with new identity as Jun Zhen Zhen but later she changed her name to be Jun Jiu Ling.

Having an outstanding medical skill, Chu Jiu Ling came to Fang family (Jun Zhen Zhen’s maternal family) as Jun Zhen Zhen. After saving the only heir of Fang Family, Chu Jiu Ling gained the trust of Fang family and then she started her path to revenge. She changed her name from Jun Zhen Zhen to Jun Jiu Ling which attracted few men.

Ning Yun Zhao (Wang You Shuo) is the only son of Ning family, an excellent scholar. An initially he betrothed to marry Jun Zhen Zhen but because his mother looked down at Jun Zhen Zhen, finally the betrothed called off.

Fang Chen Yu (Zhou Zhan) is the only heir of Fang family whose live saved by Jun Jiu Ling. In order to treat the poison in Fang Chen Yu’s body, Jun Jiu Ling decided to have fake marriage with him. When Fang Chen Yu cured and recovered, their marriage is called off too. But, Fang Chen Yu always have feeling to Jun Jiu Ling.

Chu Zan (Jin Han) is marquis, Chu Jiu Ling childhood friend who loved her since they were young. When he heard the news about the death of Chu Jiu Ling, he quickly rushing to the capital city but in the middle way, he met Jun Zhen Zhen and helped her when she got into trouble. Many times, he thought Jun zhen Zhen perhaps is Chu Jiu Ling but she denied.

Lu Yun Qi (Du Ya Fei) is imperial guard who fell in love with Chu Jiu Ling and betrothed by the current emperor but on the wedding day, Chu Jiu Ling prison because trying to kill the emperor. Then he married Chu Jiu Ling’s older sister, Chu Jiu Li (Hai Li) only to protect the Jiu Ling’s siblings whom she cherish so much in her life.

My two cents:

Story plot
I like the idea about abandoned princess who wanted to seek revenge for her father but ended up failed. Then she started new by using her best friend identity, perhaps in order to add ‘dramatic’ story in this drama, there are few men attracted to the female lead and would do anything in order to help her. But, this drama has too much ‘bugs’ and ‘irrational’ scenes. About the pace, speak frankly, this drama has quick pace in the beginning, starting to drag then quick again. What I can say, it just inconsistent pace. I can’t say the drama well or terrible bad written because I haven’t watched till the end. So far, still bearable perhaps I am really ‘giving face to’ Peng Xiao Ran LOLS.

Characters, actors and actresses

Peng Xiao Ran as Jun Zhen Zhen aka Jun Jiu Ling
My real reason why I still give a chance to this drama is because Peng Xiao Ran. I was impressed by her acting when she played in Dong Gong AKA Good bye My Princess. In here, her acting as Jun Jiu Ling is so good and I really like the way she portrayed the character.

Jin Han as Chu Zan
I think, Jin Han played as Chu Zan who also the OTP perhaps also the one that gained the most contra because his appearance and also his acting that not really fitting well with the character. No offended, Jin Han acting is okay in my opinion, for me he just an actor whose acting stagnant and nothing impressive from him. He gained fame after played antagonist character in Chu Qiao then protagonist in Our Glamorous Time, two times with Zhao Li Ying. I did hear some upzhu or other youtubers that reviewed the drama had same tone when reviewing Jin Han. For example: there is a chinese upzhu that said among all the male characters, Jin Han is the worst fitting the character as Chu Zan because he doesn’t has the aura. To be honest, I agreed that Jin Han not really fit well with the character because he doesn’t has Chu Zan’s aura. Also some even harsh by saying he is not worth to play as male lead (whether because his one layer acting or simply because ‘his ugliness’ ) which I think, these people little bit rude. I had watched few actors and actresses who are not beautiful to ‘standard’ but still have such impressive and memorable performance, sadly Jin Han didn’t in my list. 

Wang You Shuo as Ning Yun Zhao
This is my second times watching Wang You Shou. I think his acting is watchable and passable for me. In this drama, I quite like his character as Ning Yun Zhao. He indeed has such scholar aura.

Du Ya Fei as Lu Yun Qi
Perhaps from all characters, Lu Yun Qi character is one that intrigued me the most. Not my favorite character but strangely I interested with the actor who played this character. The reason is so simple, I really dislike Lu Yun Qi this character because the perfect word to describe him is psycho. His obsession toward Jiu Ling has reached to the most disgusting level such as keeping a woman to be his mistress just because the woman has similar voice with Jiu Ling. Appearance of the actor can’t be called as handsome for today standard but compare to Jin Han, he has the aura and he played well his character as Lu Yun Qi and this also reason why the actor caught my eyes.

To sum up, I won’t say this is worst drama or super bad but for me, it really passable and watchable but no re-watch value in my opinion. The only reason why I still watching this drama is because I want to see Peng Xiao Ran acted as Jun Jiu Ling and how she would take back her father ‘Jiang Shan’ from her baddie uncle. All the cast are okay except Jin Han. Really, if Jin Han can’t improve his acting skill, no matter of good a script, it will be so wasting.
